Overview
The Smart Buildings WG develops best practices for utilizing AIoT along the building lifecycle, from planing over construction, operations and renovation to decomissioning and demolition. AIoT plays an important role in bridging the gap between the BIM planning data and the real world by utilizing IoT data and AI algorithms to create a Digital Building Twin, the foundation for advanced analytics, forecasts and predictive models.
Digital Planning and Construction
Digital planning and construction is an important topic with many different aspects that can be supported by AIoT and is therefore addressed by a dedicated AIoT Working Group, which can be found HERE.
AIoT-enabled Smart Buildings
The AIoT-enabled Smart Building utilizes AI and IoT to implement use cases like energy, lighting, Smart Office, occupant monitoring, lift/elevator monitoring, air quality monitoring, water, HVAC, safety/security, access control, fire, evacuation, EV charging and carpark management. The goal is to support efficiency, improve health and sustainability, enable dynamic building operability and responsiveness.
AIoT-enabled Smart Office
The AIoT-enabled Smart Office is utilizing AI and IoT to support better meeting room management, smart lighting, air quality management, smart blinds, smart access control, worker health & well-being, and room / desk occupancy.
Co-Creation
The Smart Buildings WG is using different co-creation formats to help driving adoption of AIoT in this space, including:
- Testbeds: Co-creation in a trusted environment within a pre-defined ecosystem
- Challenges: An open competition where business and technology sponsors work with start-ups and system integrators to create novel solutions
